Open the ServiceMagic website at www.servicemagic.com.

Type your ZIP code into the "Enter ZIP Code" box.

Click on the "Choose a Category" pull-down menu and make your selection (for example: "Plumbing" > "More Plumbing" > "Pumps").

Click on "Find Local Pros." A list of prescreened contractors who do work in the category you selected will appear, along with contact information and a description.

Click on "Get a Quote," and then complete a free service request form in which you answer questions about the type of job, scope and location. ServiceMagic sends the request along with your contact information by email, text message, pager or fax to several members so they can contact you directly to discuss the project. ServiceMagic also sends you the contractors' profiles, contact information, and past customer ratings for you to evaluate.
